The watch itself is fantastic, just like all the regular Ironman® watches. I have a drawer full of Ironman® watches that still work, except that they all have a broken watchband. The problem is that this time around, I paid a premium price for the Road Trainer HR monitor edition, the band only lasted less than 6 months and replacements are not available. "Timex - wake up and fix this chronic problem with all Ironman® plastic watch bands. At least include a replacement band in the package with the premium versions!".Battery life, comfortable, easy to read, Performance, Worn all the timeQuality, inferior watchband, replacement watchband not availableHighly recommend the watch if the watch bands lasted more than a few months. This review would be a 5 star, highly recommend if the watchband issue was not so frustrating. Please let me know how I can get a replacement band. Please feel free to contact me if you need ideas or more detail.

But I havn't found any brand that does that..comfortable, Performance, reliable, ValueIt has everything you need for HRM training. As a road cyclist, watching your heart rate along with your cadence is paramount to peak performance. This monitor is very user friendly unlike the Polar versions. Additionally it is user serviceable when it comes to changing the battery again unlike the Polar models which need to be sent to their service rep in another state. A great buy for the money!

bought a road trainer HRM because it was supposed to be ANT+. i like the looks. i like the ease in setting zones, and i wanted something that would track zones and provide out-of-zone warnings while letting my Garmin Dakota record the full range of workout data. the only problem appears to be that the road trainer ain't ANT+. it won't work with any of the ANT+ straps in the house, and no ANT+ instruments will work with the HRM strap that came with the watch. so it looks like i just wasted my money. if i'd wanted a watch that didn't pair, i've got a drawer full of Polars and Suuntos. so why is this watch advertised as ANT+?.comfortable, easy to readPerformance, not ant+ compatiblebecause, at the moment, i'd like to strangle the friend who recommended Timex to me. see the above comments. i thought he had a great idea. it appears it was just a scheme to iritate me.

I have had dozens of watches for working out because of how hard I am on them but I always seem to come back to the Ironman HRM. I have two old chest bands and wonder if my watch will read them. Anyway. After all these years I have finally read the entire manual and am so pleased with what my watch can do. You could so create a niche for the casual athlete and those trying to lose weight by having a tutorial on line, since the manual might be overwhelming. If I had read my earlier manuals I might have gotten a lot more out of my early HRMs. I keep showing my wife all of the different displays and data. It is driving her crazy.
Now if you could just combine this watch with the new WS4 that is coming out and then create a way to put any data on my computer wirelessly and I would be set. Oh, Mac compatible of course. Also, the band will need replacing within the year because of how hard I am on it and it doesn't replace easily. Always using the indiglo so battery will be replaced soon too. Can you make a solar or solar assisted watch too..Battery life, comfortable, easy to read, Performance, reliable, stylish, Value, Worn all the time, indiglo, easy switching through modesreplacement of watch band.Reliable and meets the needs the specific needs of the casual athlete and the serious one.

What a great investment. This was the only HRM with the features I wanted that I could afford - and would wear in public. Come on - Ironman is pretty cool. It does everything I needed. It could use a few tweaks IMHO, but it is great as-is. The user-adjustable display is great. The chest strap worked perfectly for me. Digital transmission is good. Secondary display is larger than my other Ironman (which I could barely read). Looks cool (mens black-orange) - the 4 Allen screws on the face are a great touch. Great statistics for tracking my running in excel - I like the recover stat. I usually run 3 miles at an 800m track and log my half mile splits (avg heart rate and time). The lap split button is in the perfect location. I didn't read this anywhere, but you can turn the Zone Alert OFF (if you go outside your target zone) - good. The band is thick and heavy duty, with a nice touch - the rubber ring that holds the excess band has a rib to prevent it from moving. INDIGLO is the standard. Accessing your saved stats is easier that my last Ironman which has multiple session memory. With the Road HRM which only has 1 session memory you just press Mode to change to Review page, and every stat is there. Things that could be improved: the side buttons are too easy to push. Several times I've accidentally pushed a button while running - not good. Maybe if I'm more careful I can prevent it. Another thing - in Chrono mode, the purpose of the watch, can't you pack more stats on the screen - what about lap count? I love being able to customize the display, but I can't view the lap count?! Yes, it pops up momentarily when you press SPLIT, but that's not enough for me. Finally, why doesn't your product webpage offer a java simulation of the watch? Would it be that hard? It would be great to see the actual operation of the watch before purchase. Thank for reading..easy to read, Performance, reliable, Rugged, stylish, Value, Worn all the timeside buttons too easy to push, can't display lap in chrono modeGreat value and performance
“Great Heart Rate Monitor”

Review:
This is a very accurate heart rate monitor. I check it against the machines at my gym all the time and its always within a beat or two of what the machines read. The chest strap is pretty comfortable. The watch is stylish and is not too big like some other heart rate monitor watches. The only two things that I'm having trouble with are the heart rate zones and the calorie counter. First, the heart rates zones seem to all toggle on or off together, I'm wanting only one zone to be on at a time. Maybe this is a possibility and I'm just not understanding it in the manual (which is pretty comprehensive by the way) Second, the calories burned seem pretty high compared to the machines at the gym and the estimator on the app for myfitnesspal. I used to not pay much attention to the ones on the machines, until I started using my fitness pal and the estimates on there were pretty close to what the machines were telling me. The main reason I was looking for a heart rate monitor watch was for getting an accurate calories burned reading. Maybe I have the watch set up wrong. Any help from anyone who reads this would be much appreciated..Rugged, stylish, comfortable, easy to readcalories burned doesn't seem accurateOther than the two problems mentioned, the watch offers useful functions as well as being accurate as a heart rate monitor.

Review:
This is the second Ironman watch that I've purchased and I have used both for 1/2IM races. I'd recommend these to almost anyone but wish these (and the monitors that come with them) were ANT+ compatible.
I recently had a spill on my bike because I frequently took my arm off the handlebars so that I could see the heart rate reading. During races, I wear the watch and the monitor from start to finish. But during the race, I only want to look at the watch while I'm running. When I can't see the heart reading on my bike computer, I am forced to take my eyes far off the road and take me body far out on aero position.
Last week, this caused me drift over a couple of feet while checking my heart rate and I rode into a drainage ditch. If there were any way to sync up this heart monitor to a standard ANT+ bike computer, I'd be 100% happy with this watch..Battery life, comfortable, easy to read, Performance, reliable, Rugged, Value, Worn all the timeant + capability

“Overall Good, but has Flaws”

Review:
I bought this watch/hrm for running and circuit training. Overall, it is pretty good. The heart rate seems accurate and the customized zones are nice. It is loaded with features and is easy to use.
Here are a few flaws:
1. (major) The calorie counter is ridiculously off. Compared to other athletes doing the same activity, and using many other estimating tools, it ranges from 1.5 to 2 times higher than a realistic estimate. For example, today's workout showed I burned 1200 calories in 60 minutes. Impossible! Others showed a more realistic 500-650.
2. (moderate) The chest strap, as previously noted, is very small for men. I'm an average sized guy and it was very tight on me to start. It has stretched a bit, but the band needs to be longer. That said, it is comfortable and I forget it is there once I'm moving.
3. (moderate) The watch band, on the other hand, is huge. I have to put it on the tightest or one-off hole. Anyone with small wrists would have difficulty getting it tight.
4. (minor) It is very easy to bump the Start/Split button during exercises, especially when using bands and doing overhead presses..Battery life, comfortable, easy to read, Performance, reliable, Value, hrm functions, customizablePerformance, highly inaccurate calorie counterOverall quality and value, longevity, and reliability. Sometimes tries to do too much, though, such as with the HRM - great for HRM and stopwatch; horrible calorie counter.

Review:
Had to replace my original Ironman HRM because it's receiver just failed. It had become my trusted companion on training rides. This new one is bigger, but the face characters are smaller, harder to read, and poor quality type. The overall construction reeks of "more plastic, less metal-- more looks, cheaper materials". And Timex removed my favorite feature: storing your last five workout stats.
So while I do have a new HRM, the experience with a newer, more expensive watch is more cheesiness. In three years, quality should improve, not go down. Disappointing.

This watch has everything I wanted in a hear rate monitor / chronograph. Chronograph options, split timer to100 laps. Countdown timer like the regular Iron Man watches, and the heart rate monitor. All in one device. Best price by far for any such combo watch.
The bad - wristband falls apart on it's own after a year. I have two of these watches and they both did this.
The good again - The wristband fell apart after warranty however the replacement band is $10. Someone else said it costs nearly as much as the watch itself. This is not even close. Replacements are relatively painless.
I have informed Timex that there is a systemic problem with this watch's wristband. Hopefully they'll listen.

I guess I don't get it. All the reviews are positive...the only reason this watch gets a low rating is from its watchband and no replacement- witch, after reading the reviews knowing I was needing a new watchband, had me extremely worried...so I did something evidently most people are not doing...I READ THE MANUAL...which says contact Timex. So hang on here folks, this is where it gets good: I called the toll free number for Timex; waited approximately 2 minutes to talk to a REAL PERSON - who was extremely friendly/knowledgeable/understanding/willing to help me. I told her exactly the Timex Triathlon model watch I had and that I was soon to be in dire straits as my watchband was cracking. No problem, she said the EXACT OEM REPLACEMENT WATCHBAND FROM TIMEX was (are you sitting down) $10.00 (+Tax) with a credit card. Two minutes later I have the OEM Watchband being delivered to me home... So SOMEONE/ANYONE Please tell me what was so awful about finding a watchband for this watch??? BTW: I was given this watch as a birthday present FIVE YEARS AGO - I wear it EVERYDAY - and this is my FIRST replacement band. Some people need to get a grip on life!!!
Bottom Line: Buy the watch - without fear. Get the replacement band at Timex...you know, the people that made the watch.

My suggestion, DO NOT BUY THIS WATCH
The watch is great. Heart rate monitor function is great. The watch itself lives up to the quality I have had from every other Timex product I have owned. But this watch has a fatal flaw that has made it worthless to me. The band.
The band has broken. There are no replacement bands available ANYWHERE. Not through Timex, or 3rd party vendors. This is completely unacceptable. Why spend $100 on something you will only use for one year since that is how long it took the band to break.
I am not talking about hard use. I wear the watch constantly, in the shower, etc. So the band isn't being bent this way and that way, yet it has completely broken. Of course I am a month out of warranty. So I am stuck with a heart rate monitoring paper weight.

Like most reviews on this site, I loved the watch and had my watchband break within a year or so. I called their 1-800-328-2677 number and worked my way to the "replace a watchband" and "stay on the line" if you'd like to speak to someone from customer service. The cost was only $10 which included shipping. Give them your address and credit card # and wait 7-10 days.
Monitor fits fine on my 42" chest, I use the timer to keep from burning dinner, the chronograph to track my workout time, and the alarm to wake up to. The band should last longer than it does. Timex should reformulate the band to correct the problem and they'd have a 5-star unit.
