    Keeps on ticking

  • Normally I don't write reviews, and particularly when a product has finally failed, but in this case I will make an exception. I bought this Timex in the US (Florida) and have sailed with it up and down the East Coast. Then went to British Virgin Islands and sailed with it there. Several times by happenstance or lack of attention, we have ended up in the ocean together. No problems, no issues, even the velcro wristband wasn't daunted by the saltwater. Quick rinse, and ready to go. Now I have exposed it to several trips to South East Asia, from oceans and rivers to mountain streams, monsoon mud, and extreme heat of Myanmar in dry season. After all these hardships, and several years, the thing that finally failed... the plastic case where the pins mount for the strap. My assumption is the plastic degenerated due to all the exposure to UV. I have enjoyed this watch (especially the easy multiple timezone switching) so much, that three times I repaired the case with thread and superglue. Finally there is just nothing left to repair, but the unit itself still works great. I have the movement keeping time next to my computer, just because I can't bring myself to throw it out. Unfortunately, until I return to the States, I will be unable to replace this watch (not available in Yangon). However please know that when I do, it will be with this product.... great design and worth every penny. Thanks
