I have used some version of this watch for over 18 years. Once got me out of a huge AT&T production facility at night when I got lost!

“Great watch, Great value”

Review:

Perfect watch for avid outdoorsman. Great value for watch. I use the compass as a quick reference navigating, but rely mainly on compass and maps. However I am very surprised with the accuracy of the digital compass. It is a good idea to calibrate it frequently as mine seems to need it about once a month. Other great features include the indiglo, chrono, and timer as I use it for campsite cooking. Perfect watch and I hope Timex keeps manufacturing this one for years to come, and most importantly, for the value..comfortable, easy to read, reliable, Rugged, ValueI feel that Timex makes a great watch with the outdoorsman in mind. Really keep in consideration the value and fuctions on watches for all types of outdoor enthusiasts.

“Worst Timex I have ever owned”

Review:

I have been a diehard Timex fan for years, and this watch is my most recent purchase. The features on it are a plus, except for the non-functioning indiglo light and the "compass" which is off by 15-20 deg. no matter how many times you calibrate it. The indiglo died after a few weeks and doesn't work at all now, and I wouldn't trust the compass to navigate across my yard..Battery life, easy to read, Value, Worn all the timePerformance, Quality, non-functioning indiglo, non-functioning compassI would highly recommend Timex products to my friends and family, just not this particular one.

“Buttons Fail”

Some the buttons don't work after having the watch for some 8-9 months. I wear it most days and it occasionally gets exposed to the outside elements like rain, sand, and dirt.

“Good and Bad watch”

Review:

Kind of clunky shape, my coat kept getting caught the watch. I wish Timex had a smoother design. Loved the compass, and watch accuracy. The compass stopped working for a while, then started again. I kept breaking the pins when the watch would hang up on my coat. Iron Man plastic band would be nice. Yea that's it we need an IronMan with a compass--(without the red trim)the perfect watch! I ended up trading it for a spear from a Masai warrior in Tazmania. Spears are good but don't tell time..Battery life, easy to read, stylish, Value, Worn all the timeQuality, Size & weight, poor shape, flimsy band, pins pull out of bodyOverall the best timepieces on the planet for the money.

Review:

When one breaks, or I accidently kill it with a lawn mower -- I buy another one.

Someone mentioned that the fabric/nylon bands smell. Yeah they do.
I thought the solution was to buy one of the all plastic bands that say 'they fit all Timex and Casio brands.' They don't. They don't come with new longer spring clasps that fit the band you buy. The retailer doesn't have a clue how to help.
I'm stuck with a watch I love and a band I paid for that won't fit.

Great watch, disconnected service.

If they watch lasts for a while, you've still got to build some kind of support if we break something in the meantime.

“Good-Enough Outdoors Watch”

Review:

I bought this watch (it looks identical to the picture here except the silver ring around the watch face is black on my watch) a couple years ago for a wet climate .. for working outside, mountain biking, hunting, etc. I didn't want an oversized watch, and this was one of the few compass watches at the time that I'd consider a normal sized men's watch. It's been a good watch except for the watch band and the Indiglo light going out. After about six months the Indiglo light kind of sputtered, then just went out. I replaced the battery in case it was low, and that didn't help. I have an older, but similar style, Timex Expedition watch where the Indiglo light still works great, so I don't understand why it went out in this watch.

The compass has worked good for mountain biking and hunting, but for some reason it loses it's calibration over a short period of time .. I'm just guessing .. a few weeks. Recalibration should be in an outdoor non-metallic environment. If I'm in doubt on it's calibration, I'll just recalibrate it on-the-spot.

The watch band's leather and stitching is very poor quality and can't seem to handle the outdoors. The leather is thin and gets soft and falls apart, and the stitching is no better. First my straps went out (one real soon after purchasing the watch), and then the leather fell apart to where the watch just fell off my wrist. I found a great replacement band though from a different manufacturer..comfortable, Battery life, compass, size & weightQualityI'm very disappointed that I still see the same watch band sold on this watch, that apparently didn't get a lot of testing. I'm also disappointed that the Indiglo light went out, never to return.

“Impressive time-keeping accuracy!”

Review:

I've had this watch for two years.

I liked it having a compass so I bought it on a travel to the U.S.

Pros:
1. AMAZING accuracy. I usually check my watches against a GPS to test their accuracy... and I was absolutely amazed to see that my watch lost just over 2 seconds in ONE year.
2. Water resistant. I'm no diver but I never take out my watch (and I've never taken this one to service). I've used it on the hot waters of Miami and on the cold waters of Chile and I've had no problem at all. Except for the wrist band (it was some kind of leather with nilon) that had to be replaced because it started smelling.
3. Nice compass. It can be adjusted to fix magnetic declination (too bad the manual didn't mention declination in Chile. BTW it's -4).
4. EXCELLENT alarm: it sounds loud and it sounds two times if you don't turn it off. You won't miss it.
5. After two years it still doesn't need a battery change.
6. Large numbers (I really like this).

Cons:
1. The wrist strap wasn't very durable. It resisted water at first... but sweeting killed it.
2. The Indiglo light, although excellent, stopped working after a couple of months (it illuminates very little now... you can read the wath with some effort).
3. The compass needs to be calibrated quite often. Although it's an easy task.
4. Sometimes the screen shows random numbers. It's fixed by the press of a button (doesn't happen often).

I'm quite happy with the purchase. Wrist straps never last too long so I don't care much about it. I only miss the light. Also, it has resisted quite a though treatment and it hasn't failed once..Battery life, comfortable, easy to read, Performance, reliable, Rugged, Value, Worn all the timeIt's an excellent wath and quite affordable. I don't give it a 10 because its light failed with no apparent reason.

“Compass didn't work”

Bought one of these in 2006. The compass absolutely, positively, did not work. The rest of the watch was fine, but it costs more than one with a non-working compass

While serving in Iraq as a Cavalry Scout, I was one of the few that are the eyes and ears of the Army. While on mission, my issued compass was broken and the only available replacement was my Timex Expedition with the Digital Compass. This watch not only saved our lives, it allowed us to complete our mission, saving countless others. Thank you Timex from the bottom of my heart..Battery life, comfortable, easy to read, Performance, reliable, Rugged, Worn all the time, accurateIt saved my life. See product review.

“Timex with compass”

Review:

This is the second one of these I have bought and worn everyday. The compass feature is not one I have used while out traipsing through the woods, but I use it fairly often to reset the solar panels on my trailer when they get moved some after a heavy windstorm. I have also helped others with the same issue in the campground where our trailer is sited. I also like the size of the dial readouts. I can tell with a quick glance what the time is, as well as the day of the week and the date.

Review:

Pros: It is a great watch to help you navigate around town, stores, etc. It is very difficult to follow the army review.
Cons: I hate the band that comes on it. I would prefer a metal band because they are easier to clean.

I still like this watch a great deal..Battery life, comfortable, easy to read, Performance, reliable, Rugged, stylish, Value, Worn all the timemoisture makes band stink.Great watch overall. I have had no problems with this watch to speak of. It could use a built in pedometer.

“Very readable”

Review:

Bought it for the features (alarm, compass, etc.) but like it best for how readable the font is: tall, easy-to-read digits..easy to readGreat value.
For this particular watch, the band is an inch or more longer than I need and sort of a nuisance. Might shop for a replacement band sooner than I expected.

I have an Expidition, about 6 months old, works fine, but the compass is in a new world about everytime you punch it. It never knows one direction hardly from the other.
As a compass, don't rely on it.
Sorry, wish it worked better than that. Watch is great for telling time.

However,

This web site doesn't have much history for earlier models. I have this kind of Timex watch but the model ID on the back of the watch is WR 100M. Does anyone know what kind & supplier of battery is correct for this watch? & are there instructions for battery replacement available?

Thanks.comfortable, easy to read, Worn all the timecool watches. I'm not interested in anything that's expensive. Timex watches meet my needs.

“Expedition compared”

Review:

This has been an even replacement for the 1990 Ironman I purchased while in the service. The Ironman failed in '99 and was replaced with a dress Seiko as my career was focused in an office environment.

Purchased the Expedition in 2008 for bicycle touring. Though the sun provides enough orientation to get home, the compass is nice when you get deep enough into the woods on singletracks and want to orientate your topo. I have found the timer/alarm to be one again helpful in coaching my daughter's soccer team as the Ironman was in performing military tasks with my squad. Additionally, it help when managing laundry days.

The original watchband fits over light gloves worn when touring of the bicycle or x-country skiing. The face is easily read, both time and date are easily read without eyeglasses and the indiglo's "any-button" touch is a nice feature in both night and low-light. The eyes are not what they once were.

I prefer the look of an analog face, but this watch has great features.
