Whimsy For Your Wine and Your Wrist

I own a store-bought wine stopper. It’s presently hiding from me, though – buried, I suspect, somewhere in the recesses of an as-yet-unpacked box – and so I thought I’d whip up one of my own.

The best thing about this DIY project is that you can use almost anything pretty that you find laying around (geodes and seashells work well)– so long as it has a flat bottom, you can glue it in place and it should stay put nicely. But I happen to have a nice collection of drawer pulls handy, and since they come complete with a handle that creates an extra-secure bond with the cork, I thought hey: drawer pull it is.

DIY DRAWER PULL WINE STOPPER

What you need:

  • 1 drawer pull (Anthropologie makes gorgeous ones)
  • 1 wine cork
  • 1 small pair of scissors or awl
  • Mod Podge (optional)

What you do:

  1. If you want to seal the cork before you start, just paint it with a thin layer of Mod Podge and allow to dry.

  2. Using the scissors or awl, make a hole in the center of the cork.

  3. Push the drawer pull into the hole until the top of the drawer pull is level with the top of the cork.

That’s it! Cute, right? (I also made a completely crazy one using a peacock feather; I’ll post a pic one of these days.)

My personal philosophy is that pretty little touches like this wine stopper should be added to your life (and person) whenever and wherever possible, so now let’s take a look at the rainbow (Timex’s Modern Originals Easy Reader) that’s presently adorning my wrist.
