Style Spot: Classic Elegance

Some of my favorite shows this week have been all about restrained elegance…but with a light, feminine touch (flowy fabrics, soft pastels, and youthful cuts). Christian Siriano’s pale-blue stunner and white sleeved gown are both striking updates on classic evening looks; more toned-down than Siriano’s typical creations, these are ballerina-goes-black-tie.

Zac Posen’s take on ladylike elegance was similarly fresh and pretty, but had a touch more formality; these are most certainly dresses for grown-ups (albeit wildly fashionable ones with a flair for the romantic). My favorite pieces in the collection: a cream-and-olive pairing that managed to be simultaneously timeless and of-the-moment, and a major jaw-dropper of a red dress.

Like an elegant cocktail outfit, there’s nothing like a classically beautiful watch to add a touch of pulled-together grace to your wardrobe. Two of my favorite never-go-out-of-style pieces: Timex’s Dress Strap and Timex’s Dress Bracelet.
