We’re still stuck in New York City, crashing at my parents’ place while we wait for power to be restored to our neighborhood. When I left home, I was thinking (very naively, mostly because we hadn’t had any TV, Internet or phone since well before the storm really hit, so I had no idea what was going on elsewhere) two, three days at most.
Anyway, I didn’t bring enough clothing. Not even close. (I also didn’t bring a hairbrush, pajamas, or socks, but hey.) Fortunately, my mother happens to be quite the stylish lady, so I’ve been rummaging through her closet for cute things to wear when I have to brave the outside world, like that plaid shirt with great cuffs (I love a little plaid/floral contrast).
Also coming in handy: the best hat in the world (to cover up hair that I couldn’t be bothered to do anything with), a pair of boots that I picked up on a Saturday ramble around town (because when you find the perfect pair of black boots, you buy them), and the necklaces and watch that just happened to be what I was wearing when I left home, but which quite fortunately go with…well, everything. Everything in my suitcase, at least.
